Cute little Fumie 4

I’m been working on a few things:
First, to make character drawing that fit the page. I have this thing about sometimes drawing too big on the page. Most of this comes from the reference pics I use. Over the years I’ve become a reference whore. Photos of models normally don’t show full view, so if my drawing from a photo, I’d draw what I see. This one was a little different in that I used multiple references all which did not show the view full but I draw it anyways. It has a mixed result in that I got all of her on the page, but it was still too big and she turned out looking a little short. If Fumie was real, she’d be about 5’2” to 5’4” max, so I guess it still works.

Second, I’m trying to get a final ‘feeling’ for Fumie. I’m still not completely settled on her look. It’s still varying from pic to pic. I get that ‘feeling’ that this is how Fumie should on every other pic.

Basically, I need to draw more, especially her eyes. That’s were I get a lot of that ‘feeling’ so this is part of it. Not really ‘feeling’ this one ether.

And last is speed. I’m still way to slow. Drawing takes about 1 to 2 hours, coloring takes 3 to 5. I want to go faster so I can start doing commissions. At present, I’m putting a minimum of 4 hours into a full color pic. Pricing out my work based on the time I put into it would not work for anybody right now by either overcharging my customers or underpaying myself. This picture took just under an hour to draw and just under 3 hours to color. I still experiment too much on each picture, no set work pattern. Keep trying to find that better way.
